{Tips for Baby’s Arrival!}

Hi folks!  I know it ‘s been awhile since I’ve posted last.  I’ve been laying low for awhile, but now that the great weather has started, things I’m getting back in the swing of things!  I shot a beautiful bridal session a few weeks ago and can’t wait to post those pictures after Jenna & Brad’s big wedding day this weekend!

But, today I have a great blog for you by the wonderful Katie Moore!  Katie is an active writer within the blogging community who discusses maternity, motherhood, prenatal health, childbirth and other topics within this niche.  If you have any questions or would like to connect with Katie please contact by visiting her blog, Moore From Katie or her twitter @moorekm26.”  With my love of taking newborn portraits, I thought this article would be great for all of you soon-to-be mommies out there!

The Day Baby Arrives

Delivery day is the day all expecting moms dream about. It’s the day they’ve waited so impatiently for, for the past 40 weeks and the day they’ve wondered about on a daily basis for just as long. There are so many things that new moms don’t realize about delivery day and that they won’t expect until that day comes, but there are plenty of things moms-to-be can do to prepare for delivery day to take away some last minute nerves and make the day go as smoothly as possible.

The first thing mom can do to make delivery day as easy as possible is to pack her hospital bag in advance. Since 37 weeks is considered full term, moms should go ahead and get that bag packed and in the car at that time, just in case. The hospital bag should contain clothing that is loose and comfortable. It should also include new baby clothes to bring the baby home in, slippers for mom, toiletries and any reading material and the music she wants playing during delivery.

Mom should also get the baby’s car seat installed in her car. To make sure it is installed correctly and that she learns how to do it herself, mom can take the infant car seat with her to her childbirth class, or to a police department or fire department. The hospital does require that new mom’s bring their baby’s car seat into the hospital for inspection before they are allowed to leave with their new babies.

In addition, moms should make sure to eat as healthy as possible to ensure that their baby is as healthy as possible; this makes delivery that much easier. Planning out how mom envisions her delivery in the form of a birth plan can also be helpful during delivery day. If a woman already knows what forms of pain management she is comfortable with or optional procedures she’d like to opt into, a birth plan is a great place to outline those requests.

For pain management, there are medicines available, such as an epidural, and there are many natural methods available as well; water birthing is becoming an increasingly popular natural method of delivery. For optional procedures, there are circumcision and cord blood banking as examples. Cord blood banking is where the umbilical cord blood is collected immediately after the cord is clamped and cut. The cord blood is then stored at a cord blood bank for in the family as a potential medical resource.

With all of the details laid out and post-delivery decisions made, a mother can focus on the joy of bringing her new family member into the world.

{Great Food. New Friends. Healthy Life.} Charlotte, NC event photographer

I am the Chair of a great committee, Kids in the Kitchen, that is part of the Junior League of Charlotte.  I’ve been lucky to have such a passionate group of women to work with this year and we have held many great events throughout the community to promote healthy eating.  This past Saturday, we teamed up with another committee, Teens in Leadership Training (TILT), to host an event at King’s Kitchen in Uptown Charlotte.

King’s Kitchen has an amazing mission and if you haven’t eaten there yet, I highly suggest you go!  The King’s Kitchen is an outreach of Restoration Word Ministries managed by Jim Noble Restaurants that donates 100% of profits from sales to feed the poor in Charlotte, the region, and the world. Additionally, The King’s Kitchen partners with area ministries to provide employment opportunities to Charlotteans in search of a new beginning.  Their executive chef, Jesse Spann, is a saint in a chef’s jacket.  He was absolutely amazing with the teens!  He had so much patience and you could tell just how passionate he was about food and explaining how southern food can be made healthy.

There is no better feeling in the world than knowing you are making a difference in another person’s life.  We made some new, young friends on Saturday and gave them the information and knowledge that will help them live healthier, happier lives.

{Family Tree}

I love music.  And when I say I love it, I don’t just love it, I love it!  If you’ve never listened to Dave Barnes, I’d highly suggest you start….he’s amazing (and his comedy routine is pretty great, too)!  His Christmas album was absolutely wonderful–like listen-to-it-when-it’s-not-even-Christmas wonderful.  The one song that really touched me was Family Tree.  EVERY time it came on my iPod, it made me cry.  At work, in the car, at home…I was in tears.  And not sad tears, but happy tears that I’m so lucky to have such a wonderful family and that I can capture these great memories in an image.  So, enjoy the lyrics and enjoy meeting my family….the Kenny’s, Summey’s, Stillman’s, Clippard’s and Newman’s.

Family car we barely fit
Christmas time had come again
Bundled up to fight the freeze
Picking out the family tree

We decorate with clumsy hands
And hope that Santa
Comes again
And the morning wake to see
Gifts beneath the family tree

And I don’t know where I’m going
But I do know who I’ll be
‘Cause memories and names like these all hang
On us the family tree

We’re older now
We all have changed
But we all have at the same old things
We’ll spend the night with memories
Gathered round the family tree

We’re so much more than blood
We’re more than names
We’re bound by bonds that only God sustains

But, this time of year
We gather here
And I always know I’m home

There are voices now
Where silence was
The subtle signs of growing up
Where one is born another leaves
Branches on the family tree

First of all, I love meeting new clients!  That’s one of the best parts of my job.  At my full-time day job, I work in HR, so it’s only natural that I thrive on meeting new people.  However, there’s something different about meeting your own new clients.  Joey and his dog, Meekah, were great!  He rescued Meekah 2 months ago and she is the sweetest dog ever.  She didn’t jump on me when I came to the door (complete opposite of my own pups!) and she was so calm the entire shoot–well, that is, until we got to the dog park and she got to be around her other furry friends!  When we got there, it was the Meekah Show!
